Futuro Space

Where Ideas Take Flight

Join us at a collaborative space aimed at inspiring innovation in San Diego and beyond.

A space to Create. A Space to Inspire. A Space to Imagine.

Located at the renowned Design Center in Hillcrest, San Diego – a collective of design firms have collaborated to build a creative hub, known as Futuro Space.

Futuro Space, named after the iconic UFO-like “Futuro House” that inhabited the Design Center parking lot in the 1970s, is a collection of gathering spaces now open to be reserved for events within the creative community of San Diego and beyond.

The Origin of Futuro

The Futuro House is a uniquely designed and futuristic-looking structure created by architect, Matti Suuronen. The Futuro House quickly gained attention for its innovative design and space-age aesthetic.

In 1975, a local businessman by the name of Stan Grau, bought the Design Center. Grau had obtained the local sales rights to the Futuro. Upon purchasing the Design Center, Grau moved his prototype Futuro model into the canyon behind the Design Center.

The Futuro was used as a creative meeting space for the building’s tenants.

The Space

Futuro Space is a collection of gathering spaces intended to reinvigorate the spirit of the original intent of the Design Center, to be a hub of creativity and innovation, a space where minds and ideas thrive. A collaborative environment dedicated to productive and creative discourse.
